Bay of Plenty Regional Council manages the region's air resource so we can monitor a range of contaminants. Any breach of the ambient air quality standards must be reported under the Resource Management Regulations 2004. Breaches of the standards listed below can be viewed here. The National Environment Standard for 24 hour PM10 is 50 µg/m3. The National Environment Standard for 1 hour SO2 is 350 µg/m3 (9 allowed per year) and 570 µg/m3 (0 allowed per year). The Mount Maunganui industrial area has eleven air quality monitoring stations, this includes eight new monitoring stations installed in November 2018. Some of these monitoring stations have recorded exceedances of the National Environment Standards for Air Quality for PM10 and SO2. More information can be found on our Mount Maunganui industrial area air quality page.
